The Police Station is a main location found in many of the Ultimate Driving games. It is the location where the Police team spawns, and where Bounty can be paid off.

In almost all of its renditions, the Prison is a connected location, often next to the station, where arrested players spawn and are held for a set period of time.

History[]

The police station has existed since the inception of Ultimate Driving in 2010. It was only used to spawn police cars until Ultimate Driving: II. The police station and prison have been a staple of the games ever since.

The police station has seen many renditions over time. In the older games, the prison doors could be opened by anyone, allowing anyone to release people from prison. In later years, the station's doors were limited to keycards only.

Earlier renditions of the police station also had a different, simplistic design that was typical for the early 2010s on Roblox. However, this station design had a problematic design flaw that allowed criminals to hide on the roof, firing at police with almost no effective way for them to fire back, making playing as police on some servers effectively impossible. This was fixed with later designs, which added several doors and an indoor vehicle spawn for police to use should a similar occurrence happen.

With the changes to Westover in the v5.2 Christmas Update on December 24, 2022, the police station and jail were revamped. There was a glitch where you couldn’t pay bounty off, but it was recently fixed.

Prison[]

Players with 200 or more bounty can be arrested by police. Once arrested by police (or killed), they will spawn on the Jailed team in a prison cell. Only 2 players occupy a cell at any time; the next players to get arrested use the other cells, starting from the first left cell and moving along the right. Whenever another player spawns in a cell with someone already occupying it, the cell door timer resets.

Jail time depends on the player's bounty and apparently also severity of crimes. The maximum jail time is approximately 1 minute, with 15-20 seconds confined to the cell. Before the Westover Expansion Update on September 2, 2022, players could be in jail for as long as 5 minutes. Previous versions of UD did not have bounty-determinant jailtime and always imprisoned players for 5 minutes.

Easter Eggs[]

In UD: Pleasant Valley, when Bull was part of the UDU team, there was an old prison sitting west of Buffalo. When Pleasant Valley was re-hosted by index15, the old prison made another appearance, along with the addition of a second story and expanded rear. These areas are inaccessible, and only the front corridor has an interior. It is unknown exactly what this was for, though it was most likely a prison draft that Bull decided to add into Pleasant Valley as something to free up the view of rolling wheat fields.

In UD: Monroe, before the Police Update was released, the prison was not located in Monroe with the police station itself; rather, it was located in White Oaks, a different town west of Monroe. This prison had a non-functioning door, a poorly-created interior with asset clipping issues, and was very close to the edge of the map. It also had a mailbox in front of the staircase. When the new police station and prison design was added, the old prison was abandoned; however, it remains in the map, and can still be visited.

Older renditions of the police station contained a transparent wall in the prison's holding cells. It is located the corner opposite of the holding cells. Behind the wall is a dark path with light in the distance. The light reveals an Easter egg image of the Spanish Inquisition gag from Monty Python.
