Ultimate Driving: Odessa (also known as UD: Odessa and just Odessa) is a game in the Ultimate Driving Universe created by TwentyTwoPilots.

UD: Odessa is the second entry in TwentyTwoPilots' UD games in the current UD series and is the second most popular game in the series, with over 11.9 million visits, 36,000 likes, and 162,047 favorites as of December 2023.

On May 21, 2022, an overhauled version of the game's map was released in UD: Westover Islands (then changed to Ultimate Driving 2.0 and then soon Ultimate Driving) and included in the hub.

Overview

UD: Odessa is set in the Odessa area, a fictional region on the eastern coast of the U.S. state of Delaware that is within proximity to Palm Shores and Newark. It is just above the state border with Maryland.

UD: Odessa features the towns of Odessa and Bordenville, and the unincorporated community of Red Mill Crossroads. These settlements are connected by major roads and highways spanning across the region, the most major being US 40, US 1, Delaware Route 72, Delaware Route 26 (formerly), Delaware Route 896, the Odessa Hill Tunnel, and Betts Creek Covered Bridge, I-95, and I-76. Also, in the area is Cape Ann State Park, the only state park in the region. The speed limits are known to be 50 mph on undivided rural highways, 25-45 mph on more urban/suburban highways and roads (other than US 40 which most likely has a 50 mph limit, and DE 72 through Cape Ann which also has a 50-mph limit), 55 mph-60 mph on divided rural highways (was solely 60 mph before the revamp). Most county roads are known to have a 40-mph limit in rural areas in the game. Residential areas are mostly known to have a 25-mph limit though near Odessa there is a road that has a 30-mph limit.

History

On June 25, 2011, this game was released as "Ultimate Driving II", Ultimate Driving II included the towns of Westdale, Bloxboro, and Red Mill Crossroads (now known as Odessa, Bordenville, and Red Mill Crossroads, respectively). Ultimate Driving II took place in an area with urban and rural areas.

Sometime in early 2014, this game would be revamped and later put in the UDU Hub on December 18, 2014, this time with the towns we know today such as Bordenville (Odessa was still called Westdale).

In July 2014, that old Ultimate Driving II revamp would be scrapped and another revamp for the game would be made which became Westover.

In May 2015, that old Ultimate Driving II revamp would be turned into the UD: Odessa we all know today, with an almost identical layout.

In December 2015, it was announced that this game would be receiving a map overhaul to change its layout and make the areas better. That revamp would later be released on July 1st, 2016 rebuilt Odessa, added the Odessa Hill Tunnel, increased the size of Bordenville, and added a reversible-lane bridge on DE 72 south of Red Mill Crossroads. It also added updates associated with the other games, including license plates and the new chassis, as well as new signal controls for some traffic lights.

On December 27, 2016, the old Ultimate Driving II revamp from early 2014 would be put in a new game slot for everyone to play and see what the map was originally going to be like. On the same day, the Odessa from 2015 would be put in another slot for everyone to play and see what the map used to be like.

On October 27th, 2017, Odessa received a major update which included new houses, the new spawn system, rims, customization, and new vehicles.

On January 13, 2018, Odessa received the New Year Update (v3.0.0), which included remodeled cars, now mesh, 17 new cars, new chassis, cruise control, and new customization colors.

On August 10th, 2018, UD: Cape Ann was merged with UD: Odessa, extending DE 72 and DE 896 to their northern terminus. Part of the bridges between Harriston and Cape Ann were added (even though Harriston was never released) as were north-south road extensions and an additional spawn. After the merge, Odessa became the first map with two legacy maps (UD: Cape Ann) combined into one.

In August 2020, TwentyTwoPilots announced that Odessa would once again receive a map overhaul, overhauling all of the towns, adding new roads, and adding a new town. That same overhaul would be released for beta on March 6, 2022, although that game has since been privated. The Odessa map overhaul was released on May 21, 2022, and was moved to UD: Westover Islands with the hub.

Trivia

  • Odessa is a modernized remaster of Ultimate Driving II Classic, with an extremely similar layout. The only changes were the renaming of Bloxboro to Bordenville and Westdale to Odessa; Red Mill Crossroads was not changed from the original. The Ultimate Driving: Cape Ann map was the only new addition, as it was from a separate game.
  • Odessa is a real town in Delaware. This game's rendition of Odessa is roughly based on that town.
  • One of the thumbnails for Odessa has a Mercedes AMG with a Mercedes badge showing.
